JUST FOR KIDS > CRAFTS > Michelangelo's Birthday
March 6 is Michelangelo's birthday (the famous artist who painted the ceiling of the Sistene chapel).
We have several books with his paintings (Sister Wendy's Story of Painting is our favorite) and discussed how long it took to complete, what it must have been like for the artist laying on his back on scaffolding, etc.
Then
I taped some plain white paper to the UNDERside of the kitchen table,
gave the kids washable markers, crayons and colored pencils.
I told them to pretend they were Michelangelo by lying down under the
table and reaching up to draw some religious pictures of God, Jesus
or the apostles.
Afterwards,
we made an "art gallery" of our hallway with their artwork displayed
and looked through more pictures of Michelangelo's artwork, discussed
which paintings were their favorites and why.
